Tuesday 23rd February - bike **** - Around Felixstowe including lunch with ‘Emily’ – sunny and mild.

With wall to wall sunshine and very mild for February I was keen to get out windsurfing but after putting out a message on WhasApp to see if anyone was sailing as I didn’t fancy an open sea session by myself at this time of year and getting no reply and with the wind looking fairly marginal, I decided to head out on the bike instead. I made a sandwich but Mag decided to stay at home so set off at 12.50 all by myself:( I headed to the cliff top to check the sea which looked lovely glistening in the sunshine:) Then down onto the prom which was fairly busy stopping along the way to take pics of the beautiful blue sky! At the Fludgers I head inland before returning to the prom near the Dip. There are six kitesurfers out in the mouth of the River Deben making the most of the mild weather, sadly no windsurfers about but the winds are still on the marginal side. Onto my favourite Felixstowe Ferry and for the first time in over a year there was no campervans parked at Bawdsey! A quick trip through the boat yard and out onto the Deben river path which is not too muddy. Turning off at Kingsfleet I take the farm track to Falkenham Church still covered in a sea of snowdrops. I sit with ‘Emily’ and have my cheese sandwich, definitely not the same without Mag:( The breeze seemed to have picked up as I continued along the lane to Kirton where I spot 20+ partridges in a field so stop and take some pics with my big lens, I now have two camera bodies so it is much easier. I take Grimston Lane at Trimley to see if the deer are about, sadly not but I do spot a solitary hare. As Mag is not with me, I decide to check out the tree lined path but it was very muddy in places, not pleasant! I take Cordys Lane down to the dock view point and onto the level crossing at the back of the docks but there was a couple of trains blocking the way so I had to detour back along a particularly muddy path! Then past the huge warehouse which is nearing completion, past Morrisons and home. A top bike ride in the mild winter sunshine, too much mud for my liking but out for 3 hours covering over 15 miles, 4 stars, would have been 5 if Mag had been there!
